<p>A separator for the extn. of the liq. phase from a two-phase outflow contains in addn. to the liq. phase a lighter phase e.g. a gas or vapour. It comprises a tubular chamber with an inlet at one end through which the two-phase fluid is introduced at high speed, and at the opposite end an outlet for the light phase. Near the inlet is placed a mechanical means, e.g. fins or paddles, to impart to the flow a rotating component. At the outlet end the liq. droplets which have gathered along the length of the wall of the chamber are collected and evacuated. The separator can be used to extract the water droplets from the steam before it is conducted to the equipment inuwhich it is to be used, such as a turbine. It is partic. useful with nuclear reactors. It can equally well be placed either inside the boiler or in its outlet piping.</p> |
