<p>The viscosity index of lubricating oils is improved by (a) charging an organic solvent, particles of pneumatic tyres, and a solid bifunctional catalyst, with a cracking action and a hydrogenation action, into a reactor, pressurising with H2 to 1-250 (10-100) bars, and heating at 150-350 degrees C. (200-300 degrees C.) for not 1 hr., (b) sepg. the solid fraction from the liquid fraction, (c) mixing the liquid fraction with the lubricating oil in amt. such that the ratio by wt. of tyre:oil is 10:1-1:10, and (d) eliminating the organic solvent used in stage (a). Base oils with a high index of viscosity can be obtd. from waste prods. such as used tyres.</p> |
