Installation for treating water by passing it through a bed material which requires periodic regeneration, e.g. a water softener using a resin bed requiring brine regeneration, has a multiway distributor fitted on top of a bottle contg. the treatment bed. The distributed comprises three piston valvel which are normally held open by through flowing water being treated. One of the piston valves is on the inelt for outer treated water, A second is on the outlet for treated water and third is on a limited flow bypass which allows a proportion of untreated water to flow directly into the treated water outlet. A programmer is used to direct a pressurized supply of water simultaneously to the actuating pistons of all three valves which are thus closed. This isolates the treatment bed completely from the processed water systems while regeneration takes place via. inlets and outlet passages through the distributor. The equipment is simple, inexpensive and automatic. During regeneration, there is complete isolation of the treatment bed from the water circuit. There is no danger of contamination of process water or loss or regenerant. |
