<p>The fireplace has a base and a backplate which are formed of two castings (3, 4) with a narrow gap between them leaving a thin space (5) which serves as a waterway. There is an inlet header (6) at the front of the base and an outlet header (7) at the top of the back. Water circulates between them by natural convection. The base and back have ribs (8) which project into the fire space and increase the heat transfer area. Logs (12) can rest across the tops of the ribs from the base leaving an ash pit space below them. The construction increases the heat transfer from the fire and thus improves the efficiency without obstructing the chimney and thus without reducing the draught.</p> |
