Water soluble diazo dyes have the formula in which X is -SO2NH- or -NHSO2-; A1 and A2 (same or different) are residues of a coupling component of the benzene-, naphthalene, pyrazolone or acetoacetanilide series; and >=1 of A1 and A2 carries a water-solubilizing gp. The dyes are made by diazotising a cpd. and coupling with 1 mole of a cpd. A1-H and 1 mole of a coupler A2-N. (I) give yellow, red, orange, brown, violet, etc., tints and are esp. useful for dyeing animal fibres, wool, sheepskin, and leather. The colours are resistant to light, washing and dry cleaning. In an example, 26.3 pts. 3,3'-diaminobenzenesulphanilide was diazotized and coupled with 51.4 pts. (III) to give a dye which coloured leather in deep greenish yellow shades.
|
