The parachute is intended to break the descent of small loads dropped from an aircraft or fired as shells and consists of two canopies (1, 2) one of which is hemispherical and the other parabolic. They are joined together at the edges and provided with two chimneys (6, 7) of equal area. The two canopies are made from metallised plastic, the metal facing on the lower canopy being towards the interior and on the higher canopy towards the exterior. The parachute carries a combustive or infra-red source (5) and can be used to illuminate the ground, or as a target for infra-red seeking shells or missiles, or to confuse radar screens.
