<p>The pumping system is permanently connected to a water or ballast tank of a tanker vessel having a large number of separate tanks. It has a pump transferring the ballast water in opposite directions along a single path. One direction runs from the sea to the bottom of the ballast tank, passing in the process through a first valve and two second branches. The other runs from tank to sea, either directly through both branches and first valve, or indirectly via the second branch, a third branch and a second valve, to atmosphere, above sea level.</p> |
