The cylinder block of an ic engine (19) is machined with its upper surface in two planes (12, 13) at an angle to each other like the pitched sides of a roof. They meet at a ridge (14) on the centreline of the block. The cylinder head (24) has its lower surface in a corresponding shape with a re-entrant angle along the ridge. When the head is fixed to the block to the cylinder (17) terminates in an upper space (16) with pitched sides. The piston (22) is correspondingly shaped. This shape gives good combustion and the construction adopted achieves it without difficult machining processes. In other respects the cylinder block and head have conventional features.
|
