<p>A hardenable coating compsn. of 100-1000 cPs viscosity comprises (a) a liq. phenolic cpd. of formula (I):- (where R is 1-16C alkyl in o- or p- position and the CH2OH gps. are in the two remaining o- or p- positions); (b) a phenolic cpd. of formula (II):- (where R1 and R2 are CH3 or H, x = 0, 1 ot 2 and Ro is 1-16 C alkyl); (c) a liq. 1,2-epoxy component comprising an aliphatic and/or an automatic epoxy cpd(s), with an epoxy equiv. of 130-200; (d) 3-25 wt.% of a non volatile polyol (based on a+b+c+d) (e) 25 vol. of an inert org. solvent (based on a+b+c+d+e) (b an amine catalyst. The compsns. are partic for coating food containers. They cure at 177-232 degrees C to form flexible, solvent resistant coatings.</p> |
