Digital network for locating power line short circuits - stores current and voltage at both ends of line in digital form before performing algorithmic calculation

The digital monitoring network for locating the position of power transmission line short circuits, monitor and stores the voltage and current conditions at both ends of the transmission line concerned before the fault circuits operate and which then uses this data in a digital algorithm to estimate the fault location. At each end of the transmission line pair (a, b) concerned, is mounted a voltage and current transformer. Signals are taken from these via analogue to digital converters to data storage units and to cutout control networks (SA1, SA2) which operate isolating switches. If a line fault occurs the stored digital data is transmitted via transmission units to an evaluation network and computer where an algorithm is used to estimate the location of the fault.
