Spherical high pressure gas-holder - with inner inflatable thermoplastic bladder for corrosion protection

A spherical gas holder for high-press. coke oven gas consists of a rigid metal sphere with an inner inflatable sheath which protects the metal against chemical attack by chemicals in the gas liquor. The sheath is a gastight ballon, suspended from a manhole which transmits the gas press. to the metal sphere and can move relative to the latter. This prevents attack by hydrocyanic acid without expensive gas drying or purification units. The sheath resists temp. and press. fluctuations and does not flake off like inside coats of paint. A welded hollow steel sheet sphere includes a sheath made of thermoplastic foil, reinforced by fabric, which is clamped by a ring at the tom rim of a manhole. Additional hangers suspend the sheath when not inflated. Only the dome, lid and ring are made of alloy steel. The bottom of the sheath can form a reinforced disc to leave a small space for leakage gas liquor and for ultrasonic flaw detection surfaces. The outside of the sheath has pref. raised bosses on which it can slide relative to the wall.
