1499753 Workpiece clamping; jigs; grinding MAUSER-SCHAERER GmbH 20 Feb 1975 [21 Feb 1974] 7103/75 Headings B3B B3C and B3D [Also in Division G1] A workpiece clamping fixture 1 for use in a module clamping system for work to be machined, e.g. by milling, drilling or grinding, or for measuring a workpiece, comprises an L- shaped body whose surfaces have machined recessed areas ld to produce raised contact areas le, and whose geometric proportions provide a height and depth of the vertical side and the length and depth of the horizontal side equal at dimension a, and the width of the vertical side and the height of the horizontal side equal at dimension 0À5a, and the fixture is provided in all of its sides with a plurality of holes of different diameters. Some of these holes are plain through holes 1a, some are tapped holes 1c, a large hole 1b is used to receive e.g. hydraulic or pneumatic jacks, and some holes intersect at right angles with other holes internally. Varied uses of the fixture 1 are described including; (a) (Fig. 15) clamping hydraulically a series of workpieces 15b between end fixtures 1 acting as abutments during a milling operation; (b) (Fig. 18) constructing a drill jig for drilling a workpiece 18e which is fluid pressure clamped between blocks 11 and 18(d); (c) (Fig. 22) a sine bar mounting in which a workpiece 22 is clamped hydraulically against the fixture 1 and a block 22d; and (d) (Fig. 23) a mounting for workpiece 23d between centres 23a in a measuring jig in which dial gauges 23f engage machined parts of the workpiece. Various other blocks, V-blocks, and tables with T-slots, are described with common modular dimensions and hole positioning enabling various vices and clamping arrangements to be constructed. A precision measuring device is described (Figs. 24 and 24A, not shown) having vernier scales to measure the setting of a bar (24e). Fluid pressure operated clamping dogs are described (Figs 26-28 not shown). An indexable drilling jig is described in connection with Fig. 29 (not shown).
