1499902 Optical brightener and filler DEUTSCHE GOLD - UND SILBER - SCHEIDEANSTALT and HENKEL & CIE GmbH 16 Jan 1975 [17 Jan 1974] 1869/75 Heading D1P A dry, pulverulent composition contains an optical brightener and a finely divided (max particle size 0.1mm) water - insoluble alumino- or boro-silicate having a calcium binding capacity of at least 50mg CaO/g of anhydrous silicate (=AS), and of general formula; wherein Cat represents a cation exchangeable with calcium and of valency n, x represents a number from 0.7 to 1.5, M represents boron or aluminium and y represents a number from 0.8 to 6. The exchangeable cation may be hydrogen, lithium, potassium, ammonium or magnesium or the cation of a water soluble organic base, but is preferably sodium. The brightener may be substantive to cotton, polyamide or polyester, and may be a diaminostilbenedisulphonic acid, diarylpyrazoline carbostyril, 1, 2 - di(2 - benzoxazolyl) - or 1, 2 - di - (2 - benzimideazolyl) - ethylene, benzoxazolylthiophene, coumarin or distryryldiphenyl derivative. The composition may be formed by hot - drying e.g. by unitary spray or rollers, a slurry of the components. In a modification, the silicate is formed, e.g. by admixture of sodium aluminate and sodium silicate, in aqueous suspension in the presence of the brightener, which is thus coated with the silicate upon drying. Hollow beads may thus be formed. The silicate may be amorphous or microcrystalline. Other water-soluble or finely divided water-insoluble inert substances may also be present. |
