Preferred esters are diacetin, triacetin, dipropionin and tripropionin. Propoxylated starches are preferred but also mentioned are starches modified by sodium hypochlorite, esterified with phosphates or hydrolysed with acid or heat. Other additives include flavourings, colouring, gelling agents, sugar and dextrose.
