1499709 Synthesis gas of reduced particle content TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 31 Aug 1976 [1 Oct 1975] 35928/76 Heading C5E [Also in Division Bl] Synthesis gas of reduced particle content is produced by subjecting a carbonaceous or hydrocarbonaceous fuel 2 to partial oxidation, suitably with the introduction of an oxidizing agent I and steam 3, in reaction zone 5 of gas generator 4, passing the resulting gas stream through a constricted zone 6 to accelerate the rate of flow and increasing the velocity of the solid particles of soot and ash and diverting a stream of gas of reduced particle content through a line 8, from the particles of increased velocity. The diverted stream may be introduced into the tubes of a waste heat boiler 9, converting water introduced by line 10 into steam leaving through line 11, the stream leaving as a cooled gas through line 12. The remainder of the synthesis gas enters the quench chamber 7 where it passes through a dip leg 13 and is discharged into quench water 14 introduced through line 15 and quench ring 16. Gas substantially free from solid particles is withdrawn from the quench chamber through outlet 17. Water, containing soot and ash, is removed through quench blowdown 18.
|
