The gripper projectile contains a housing (1), a weft-thread clamp (2) arranged in the housing and having a yoke (6), and two parallel clamp legs (7) for holding the weft thread, and an insert body (3) made of elastically deformable plastic, which possesses a sawtooth-like profiling and which is arranged between the clamp legs in such a way that, as a result of deformation, the profile portions bear on the insides of the clamp legs. The insert body (3) is connected firmly to the housing (1) in the region of the yoke by means of connecting elements (4) made of fibre-reinforced plastic. By means of these measures, the vibrations transmitted to the thread clamp by the knocks and jolts acting on the projectile during the weft-insertion operation are reduced and these are damped by the insert body (3) bearing on the clamp legs via the profiling. <IMAGE>
