Guide rail, for a roller seam welding machine, where the two longitudinal and adjacent edges of a bent sheet are fed through the rail into the welding rollers, to make a can body. Each sheet edge is fed into an inlet groove; and the two grooves converge towards the outlet end of the rail. Each groove has a depth which exceeds half the width of the rail, so the two edges of the can body overlap when they leave the rail and enter the welding rollers.The depth of the two grooves at the inlet end of the rail decreases continuously towards the outlet end of the rail, so the bottoms of the two grooves form an angle with each other esp. of 0.1-0.6 degrees. Used partic. for the mash seam welding of can bodies, where only the min. amt. of overlap need by used, and excellent welds are obtd.
