<p>The glass or crystal substrate is pref. a flat plate contg. engraved grooves forming a design or picture. The engraved side of the plate is cleaned, and covered with a screen printing frame which has no design or picture in its fabric; and the enamel is screen printed onto the plate. The enamel only reaches the flat surface of the plate, and the printing frame is next raised, leaving enamel on the underside of the printing frame corresp. with the shape of the pattern; this suspended enamel is removed by a scraper before the printing frame is used on the next plate or substrate. The suspended enamel can also be removed from the printing frame by transfer to a flat plate from which the enamel can be recovered. The engraving can be made e.g. by etching or sand blasting so the design consists of sunken grooves.</p> |
