New organosiloxane chelating compositions comprising a siliceous support and an organosiloxane chelating agent bonded to its surface are disclosed. A new method for preparing the composition comprises contacting the siliceous support with a solution of an organosiloxane comprising units of the formula <IMAGE> AND OPTIONALLY, UNITS OF THE FORMULA <IMAGE> R is -CH2COOH or -CH2COO-M+; M+ is an alkali metal ion, m = 0 or 1, a = 0 or 1, b = 1 or 2, (mxa) + b is at least 2 and Z is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 6 inclusive carbon atoms.
