The sorting equipment is for items such as plants, flowers and cuttings, particularly chrysanthemum cuttings. It has a weighing machine (1) for the items when stationary, an endless conveyor (13) with hoppers for the items, and means for transferring the items after weighing into one of the hoppers. Along the track of the conveyor are mechanisms emptying the hoppers at selected points dependent on the result of the weighing, into vessels provided for them. Actuating devices allow the operator to weigh each item and work the conveyor as necessary. The conveyor can be arranged to function intermittently, starting up each time an item is loaded onto the weighing machine.
