Treatment of mixed ores of barytes and fluorspar - with recovery of barium sulphide and hydrofluoric acid

In the treatment of a mixed ore of fluorospar and barytes, stage (1) involves the flotation of the ore. The flotation can be selective w.r.t. either fluorspar or barytes, or is partic. an overall flotation of the ore. In stage (2) the enriched ore is treated with pref. conc. H2SO4 at 250-400 degrees C. In stage (3) the prod. from stage from stage (2) is reduced by carbon at pref. >=900 partic. 1,000-1,100 degrees C and the BaS obtd. is selectively dissolved, in H2O. Both HF and BaS can recovered by this process in good yields mixed ores in which the molar ratio CaF2: BaSO4 can vary widely.
