Circuit breaker with arc quenching baffles - has conductive intermediate layer between contacts for partial arcs treatment

The moving contacts of the circuit breaker have a relative movement and the circuit breaker contains light arc quenching baffles. Between the breaker contacts (4, 6) is provided an intermediate layer (30) of conductive material which effect a series connection of partial light arecs (40, 42) after contact breaking. The intermediate layer is preferably formed by one of the light arc quenching baffles (16-23) made of sheet metal. The design improves the break down voltage of the circuit breaker after zero current passage, which in turn increases the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker.
