The bimetal element of the thermostatic switch is connected to the contact system via a transmission member (3). A manually releasable clamp (8, 18) acts on the transmission member. During or after the shifting of the transmission element the clamp prevents the contact system (5, 6) changing its state, caused by temperature dependent movement of the bimetal element (2). The transmission element is preferably conical. The clamp may be formed by a friction member stressed by a spring, the friction force in the transmission member direction of motion being greater than the resetting force of the contact system, but smaller than the displacement force of the bimetal element.
