High speed wire matrix printing head has a number of electromagnets with armatures which strike the individual wires and drive them towards the recording surface. The wire ends which are struck are arranged on the circumference of an ellipse while the recording ends are held by a guide in a flat straight line. An upper limiting holder fixed above the armatures on the carrier and guide system provides a common stop or path boundary for all the armatures. The cover plate has openings which facilitate the passage of an air flow. The design facilitates adjusting the stroke length of a number of electromagnets.
