New cyclopropanecarboxylic acid esters and amides are of formula (I). In the formula Y is O or NH; R1 and R2 are H, CH3 or Cl; R3 and R4 are H or CH3; and R5 is H, Cl or NO2. (I) are pesticides active against a wide range of pests, and are partic. useful as acaricides and insecticides. They exhibit good activity against Dysdercus fasciatus, Tenebrio molitor, the spider mite Tetranychus urticae, the ticks Rhipicephalus bursa and Boophilus bursa, and Spodoptera littoralis. Specific cpds. (I) include 4-phenoxyphenyl cyclopropane-carboxylate. In an example, this was prepd. by reacting 4-phenoxy-phenol in benzene with cyclopropanecarboxylic acid chloride in the presence of ethyldiisopropylamine.
