The brake consists of a rotating housing (8) which is attached to the wheel rim (7) and which carries two brake rings (14, 15). The brake housing is mounted on a hub (4) which can rotate on roller bearings on the steering knuckle (1). The brake rings are pressed with their friction linings against the brake housing by means of a spreading mechanism (12, 13, 17, 18) and rollers (21). The rollers are mounted in a cage (25). The spreading rings (12, 13) and mechanism are supported from the steering knuckle. To operate the brake, one of the spreading rings (13) and the roller cage are displaced angularly from the other ring by means of pinions on the operating shaft (17). Sloping tracks on this ring cause an axial displacement of the ring, so that both brake rings are forced against the brake housing.
