Silent rotation coupling for two parallel shafts - has two adjacent wheels each having ring of permanent magnets or electromagnetically induced poles alternating around circumference

The quiet rotation (and torque) coupler, for transferring the rotation of one shaft to another, consists of two wheels (3, 4) each fixed to one of the two parallel shafts (1, 2) and lying in the same plane. Each wheel consists of a ring of permanent magnets alternating in polarity in passing round the wheel's periphery. The ring is mounted on a non-magnetic disc. The polarities of one wheel are arranged so that at the point of closet approach to the other wheel an N pole faces an S pole (and vice versa). Magnetic attraction draws one wheel around in the opposite direction after the other wheel. The magnetic poles may be induced by a coil carrying dc current.
