Discharge valve for multicylinder reciprocating pump - has individual ball valves spring loaded round circumference of plate

Each cylinder of a pump has a discharge passage (2) into a valve plate (5). A short radial passage meeting this leads to an opening (9) in the circumference of the plate. An outer channel (3) round the plate links all the openings to a common discharge pipe (4). Each opening is closed by a ball (6) which is held in a ring (7) running round the plate and holding all the balls. A valve spring is formed by a rubber cone (8) pressed onto the ball by an annular metal spring (10) which serves all the rubbers. This arrangement gives improved sealing of the valves at high speed operation and doees not allow discharge from one cylinder to have a back pressure on other cylinders.
