For producing hollow building blocks which receive, in a slit (3) running continuously from top to bottom parallel to one lateral building block face, a foamed-in foam insulation (4), the two brick parts delimiting the longitudinal side of the slit (3) being connected only by narrow webs and/or via the cured foam (4), brick parts forming in each case a slit (3) are ranged together slit-against-slit in the slit longitudinal direction. Then foam (4) is injected into the slits (3) lying one behind the other, the slits (3) are covered and the foam is allowed to foam completely and cure. <IMAGE>
