The signal detector, for noisy transmission paths, extracts a part of the incoming noisy signal corresponding to the wanted clean signal's spectrum and compares its amplitude with that of noise (at one or more frequencies) extracted from the same incoming noisy signal. The extracted wanted signal spectrum is amplified above the extracted noise signal by an amount depending on the bandwidth and signal-to-noise ratio of the transmission path. Both the noise and wanted spectrum are rectified before amplitude comparison. The advantage lies in increasing the certainty of signal recognition using relatively few components.
|
