Smelting ores in blast furnace - with unquenched coke from coke oven

Smelting of ores (esp. iron ore) is effected by melting down and reducing the metal cpds. in the ore with fluxes and coke in a blast furnace supplied with preheated air or O2-enriched air. The improvement is that the blast furnace is charged with red-hot coke supplied directly from a coke oven without prior quenching. Process avoids all problems associated with quenching. Elimination of the quenching step improves thermal efficiency.
