A display method is suitable for the contents of an electronic meter such as a tariff or kilowatt hour meter, in which a max. value counter generates a counting pulse when its max. value is reached, so that a cumulative store count is then incremented. An optical coupling link is provided between the max. value counter and a light sensitive receiving display panel. The whole arrangement can be sealed inside the meter so that interference by the consumer is difficult and, even if this occurs, the electronics can be arranged so that any interference produces signals disadvantageous to the consumer.
