Device for securing a nut (26) on a shaft (15), e.g. for an assembly of tapered roller bearings (17), comprises serrations (36) provided at the inside of a cylindrical projection of the nut. A mounting ring (45) has at its periphery serrations which fit those of the nut. The ring has at its internal periphery a key (48) fitting an axial groove (49) in the shaft so that the nut is held against rotation. The ring is secured against axial withdrawal from the nut by a flange (66) secured by screws (67) to the end face of the cylindrical projection of the nut.
