<p>The flexible protective cover for linear measurement instruments fitted to machines is suitable for fitting to carriage-slider-mounted optical gauges. The U-shaped channel in which the precision calibrated measuring strip is laid (3, 4) has its upper surfaces capped by magnetised strips or plates (8) on which the measuring head runs (1). The entire length of the otherwise open channel is covered by a thin, flexible metal sheet (2) which passes over the top of the measuring head and is held down by the magnetic rails running the length of the channel. As the slider moves along the guide channel, it displaces the protective metal sheet which then falls back into place in the wake of the moving head and is held by the magnetic strip to form an effective seal.</p> |
