1515811 Automatic exchange systems STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 19 April 1977 [29 April 1976] 17464/76 Heading H4K In an automatic exchange in which the control equipment and/or the switching equipment consumes power when it is available for use but not actually in use, the traffic being offered to, or handled by the exchange is monitored to determine the current traffic level and the amount of control equipment and/or switching equipment which is available for use is regulated automatically in accordance with the current traffic level. The application is to a TXE4 exchange comprising a plurality of main control units or MCU's a number of which are made available for use in dependence on the traffic load in order to reduce the power requirements of the exchange. Means are provided to ensure that a MCU and its registers are not cut out whilst performing call setting operations. |
