摘要 PURPOSE:To automate the fault detection and the fault notice of a peripheral equipment by providing an operation predicting means for predicting a mechanical operation of the peripheral equipment, an operation detecting means for detecting an actual mechanical operation of the peripheral equipment, a comparing means and a fault informing means, etc. CONSTITUTION:An operation predicting device 22 in a printer 20 calculates and predicts a mechanical operation of a printer head, etc., based on data received by a data receiver 21, encodes its predicted contents, and predictor registers 23a, 23b hold the predictor. Also, a head operation detecting mechanism 25 and a printing operation detecting mechanism 26 detect a printer head operation and a printing operation by using various sensors, encode its result, and operation result registers 27a, 27b hold a result of detection. Subsequently, comparators 28a, 28b compare each holding contents of the register 23a and 27a, and the register 23b and 27b at every corresponding item, detect whether a fault exists or not, and in the case the fault is detected, it is informed to a host device 10 by a fault informing driver 29. In such a way a fault detection and its notice of a peripheral equipment of the printer 20, etc., can be executed automatically.
