PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve visual field angle characteristics, to prevent the destruction, etc., of oriented films by dust and static electricity and to save the number of stages by producing a bend oriented liquid crystal cell by irradiating substrates formed with oriented films with light. SOLUTION: This process is composed of a stage for using polarizing plates for the oriented films 11 formed on glass substrates 1 and determining a pretilt direction by irradiating these films with linearly polarized light and a stage for injecting liquid crystals between the substrates 1 and 1 subjected to the determination of the pretilt direction. Since the pretilt angle applied on the oriented films 11 is controlled by the magnitude of the light energy with which the oriented films are irradiated, the device having the large pretilt angle of >=45 deg. is easily produced as well. The oriented films 11 are so formed as to have >=45 deg. pretilt angle and, thereafter, liquid crystal molecules 12 are distributed symetrically with each other between the upper and lower substrates 1 and 1 and are eventually bend oriented by the flow of the liquid crystals if the liquid crystals are injected. |
