REAR BUSH LUBRICATION ARRANGEMENTS FOR AUTOMOTIVE TRANSMISSIONS

1498783 Lubricating automotive transmission bearings TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 31 Aug 1976 [31 May 1976] 35999/76 Heading F2A In an automotive transmission of the type in which a cylindrical hollow rear bush 3 (Fig. 4) is diposed adjacent to the rear end of an extension housing 1 of the automotive transmission for rotatably supporting an output shaft 4 or sleeve 5 rotatable in unison with said output shaft, oil grooves 111, 16 (Fig. 6) are formed in the bore of the rear bush in such a way that upon rotation of the output shaft or sleeve, lubricating oil is drawn into the oil grooves from the front and rear ends of the rear bush to be distributed over the whole inner surface of the rear bush, and an axial passage 15 or passages are formed in said extension housing for intercommunicating between the front and rear spaces in front of and behind the rear bush, the oil grooves have such a grooving pattern that the lubricating oil may be discharged only in the rear space, and the axial passage or passages for intercommunicating between the front and rear spaces are formed only in a portion of the extension housing surrounding the upper portion of the rear bush. The oil grooves may consist of a first helical oil groove 111 (Figs. 6 and 8) intercommunicating the front and rear spaces, the direction of the first helical oil groove being such that when the output shaft or sleeve rotates in the direction corresponding to forward gears oil tends to flow in the first groove from the front to the rear space, and either a second oil groove 16 (Fig. 6) whose direction is opposite that of the first groove and which intersects the first groove and has one end communicated 11 with the rear space and the other end terminated at a point spaced apart from the rear bush; or a pair of symmetrical partly helical oil grooves 161, 1611 (Fig. 8) which are extended from the front and rear ends, respectively, of the rear bush in the direction opposite to that of the first groove and terminated at a point adjacent to the middle point of the first groove without interseating the first groove. Figs. 6 and 8 illustrate bushes prior to fabrication.
