A herbicide which comprises a compound as an active ingredient having the formula <IMAGE> wherein X represents -H or -Cl; Y represents halogen atom or cyano group; Z1 represents -H or methyl group; Z2 represents -H, methyl or ethyl group; Z3 represents cyano group or <IMAGE> group; R represents hydroxy group, -O- cation group, C1 - C4 alkylthio group, C2 - C4 alkenylthio group, C2 - C4 alkynylthio group, C1 - C4 alkoxy group, C1 - C4 alkoxy- C1 - C4 alkoxy group, C2 - C4 alkenyloxy group, C2 - C4 alkynyloxy group, amino group, C1 - C4 alkylamino group, di-C1 - C4 alkylamino group or anilino group which can be substituted with halogen atom or C1 - C4 alkyl group.
