The apparatus for mixing two or more liquids in the microgravity environment of space consists of a rigid tube (1) containing seals (3, 5) and valves (4, 6) defining a series of separate chambers (A, B, C) to accommodate experimental liquid specimens. Upon controlled actuation in a syringe-like fashion, the valves open passages between the chambers, allowing the liquids to flow and mix, following a predetermined sequence. Compactness of the apparatus permits many such devices to be accommodated in a relatively small volume in the carrying spacecraft.
|
