Head for processing workpieces using laser beam

The head has a cassette (4) with focussing optics, a carrier (10) for the cassette that can slide in the axial direction, a drive mechanism (24-31) for the carrier and a pressure chamber (16) between the optics and the radiation outlet where a compressed gas is introduced. The carrier projects with its end into another pressure chamber (19) where such a working pressure prevails that the carrier is held in equilibrium. The two pressure chambers are connected by at least one channel(23). The carrier at the end is a hollow cylinder and the second pressure chamber is annular in section.
