1454540 Syringes M C ARIAS 29 Oct 1973 [1 Nov 1972 15 Aug 1973] 50139/73 Heading A5R A disposable self-destructing syringe comprises a synthetic plastics cylinder 20 and a plunger 25 provided with a forwardly projecting punch arranged to enter the end wall of the cylinder when the plunger is moved in use to its inward position so as to render the syringe thereafter useless. In Fig. 17, punch 67 pierces the end wall at recess 68. In Fig. 18 punch 70, coaxial with needle 57 fixed by skirt 59 into the end wall, is formed with surface ribs or teeth which enter and engage in the internally ribbed outlet aperture 71. In Fig. 2, plunger 25 has a piston 27 and a blade 43 biased radially outwardly by a compression spring 40 located in a tubular seat 39 at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the syringe, the blade cutting a weakened section 23 of cylinder 20 when the plunger is pushed to expel liquid 35. With the plunger 25 retracted or filling of the syringe, a non-cutting edge of the blade runs up the inside surface of the cylinder until stops 29 are reached when the blade then extends through an aperture 24 into a cutting position. The aperture need not extend through the entire cylinder thickness. A needle is either attached to spigot 21 or provided with a socket 63, Fig. 14, having a rib 65 cooperating with a groove 66 on the cylinder. Spring 40 may be replaced by a longitudinally-mounted laminated spring. |
