The container has cylindrical walls (1) and may be of composite material. The end covers (3) are formed of plastics material. The lid has a cylindrical skirt (10) on the outside of the cover, the edge of the cover being in contact with the sloping inner edge of the wall of the container. A l metal collar (6) fits over the flange and extends beyond it. The extension is rolled with the plastic flange of form a joint. The inner edge of the metal collar fits into the plastic lid. The ring (9) enables the lid to be torn open.
