In order to be able to write information in a medium (1), a first laser beam (3), which comes from a beam-intensity control and deflecting device (5), is directed through the medium (1). A second laser beam (4), coming from a second beam-intensity control and deflecting device (6), is directed through the said medium (1) in such a way that the two laser beams intersect. The first laser beam sets the medium in a first state of excitation. In the region of intersection (2) of the two beams, the second laser beam sets the thus sensitised medium with a changed monomolecular absorptivity in comparison with the initial state. In this way, by means of a computer (9) which controls the said deflecting devices (5, 6), information can be stored in the medium. <IMAGE>
