<p>The mechanism serves for automatic take up of belt slack, after the belt has been pulled out for use, or when the user pulls out the belt by leaning forward. The shaft (1) carrying the spool of the take up mechanism has a toothed wheel (2) working together with two racks connected in a U-shape. When one rack is in mesh with the toothed wheel and the wheel rotates clockwise following the pulling of the seat belt, the entire U-shaped element moves away from the wheel. A spring (6) is compressed and a piston (8) forced into a cylinder (7) and air from the cylinder is driven out through a valve (9). On its way away from the toothed wheel the U-shaped element reaches a position where it is out of mesh and the roller now can rotate without restriction.</p> |
