A vehicle automatic transmission is disclosed which minimizes the transmission of torque to the vehicle drivershaft when the gear selector is in the Drive (D) position and the engine is idling. This is accomplished by inserting a plurality of flow control valves in the hydraulic control circuit to cause the transmission to automatically shift into its highest forward gear whenever the driver's foot is lifted from the accelerator pedal. The flow control valve direct main supply pressure to the shift control valves causing the transmission to upshift into its highest forward gear regardless of vehicle speed. |
