Laboratory bench tops with fluid-retaining rims - have some planted-on plastic rims instead of all integral stoneware

A laboratory bench top has its rim, on >=1 side, made as a separate closure strip. Pref. the rim along the long side of the bench is integral with the surface, while the new closure strips are fitted at the end(s). The closure strips are of plastic, pref. thermoplastic, they are of U-section, placed over the bench edge, with the raised surface of the rim supported on cross partitions and sloping down on the inner side to the bench levels. The closure strip is sealed to the bench surface with a mastic, silicone or epoxy resin.
