<p>High-melting diamide wax (I) comprises the reaction prod. of a mixt. of dibasic carboxylic acid(s) (II) with >=6C or monobasic carboxylic acid(s) (III) with >=8C, contg. 5-95 mole-% (II), with a diamine (IV), pref. ethylenediamine (IVa). (II) pref. is adipic acid and/or sebacic acid and (III) is a 12-18C acid. (I) is prepd. by adding (IV) slowly to hot (II)/(III) under nitrogen, with removal of the water formed, and heating 1-3h at 230-290 degrees C. (I) are suitable for numerous applications where high-melting waxes are needed, e.g. high melting asphalts and mastic resin and in high temp. stoving coatings. The m.pt. of (I) cna be varied easily within the range 140-220, pref. 150-220 degrees C by adjusting the (II)/(III) ratio and the required degree of polymerisation can be obtd.</p> |
