1498599 Mower SHIKUTANI KK 5 July 1976 [4 July 1975] 27867/76 Heading A1F A cutterhead assembly for a portable rotary mower having a power-driven shaft 30, comprises two discs 24, 26 sandwiching a flat coil 22 of nylon, or other high molecularweight polymer, monofilament, each turn of the coil being connected to the adjacent turn either by heat bonding, adhesive, a backing sheet or by the web remaining after injection moulding in order to restrain uncoiling. The free outer end 20 extends through a port 44 and may periodically be pulled off the coil to replace worn material, the coil then being clamped between the discs 24, 26 by turning a nut element 34 on a bolt 32 the head 36 of which fits snugly into a similarly shaped recess 34 in the disc 24 to prevent relative motion therebetween More than one coil with a corresponding number of equidistant ports 44 may be sandwiched coaxially between the discs 24, 26. Relative rotation between discs 24, 26 may be avoided either by co-operating ears 60 and recesses 62 (Fig. 10) or by a non-circular hub 74 fitting a similarly shaped bore 76, shown in Fig. 12, which also shows a rubber-covered 72 abutment 70 for the free end 20.
