1498014 Plate heat exchangers SRM HYDROMEKANIK AB 18 Dec 1974 [14 Feb 1974] 54771/74 Divided out of 1498011 Heading F4S [Also in Division F2] A heat exchanger for transferring heat from the working fluid of a hydrodynamic torque converter to the liquid coolant of an engine comprises a stack of elements each consisting of two metal sheets 402, 404 sealed together, e.g. by welding or brazing, around their peripheral boundaries and at regions within their boundaries, e.g. along pressed-up ribs 413, and a ring 406 formed with radial channels 408 and sealed, e.g. welded, between the two sheets around each opening I, O for the entry and discharge of fluid to be cooled. The stack is held together between plates 411 by tubular fittings 414 in the inlet and outlet, and sealing between each element of the stack and with the plates 411 is effected by 0-rings 412. Holes 410 in the rings 406 and in the sheets constitute a leakage space communicating with the exterior through holes in the lower plate so that any leakage passes to the exterior rather than between the sections for fluid to be cooled and coolant. The joining of the sheets at 413 strengthens the elements to resist fluid pressure and defines fluid passageways.
